Hospital based general anaesthesia

In some cases you may require surgery in a hospital to treat your dental problems. If that’s the case, you’ll need to prepare for general anaesthesia. It’s very important that you drink no alcohol and don’t smoke, for 24 hours before your surgery. You may also have to follow instructions about fasting before the surgery—your dentist and the staff at the hospital will be able to tell you more.

Before you go into the day surgery unit, you’ll be given a questionnaire to fill out, which also gives you the chance to tell staff of any known allergies, and for the surgeon to receive any specific pre-operative instructions.
